Spirituality and Global Economics LINKS
Economic Injustice In U.S.
Income Distribution
Excerpt
from
The Economics of Innocent Fraud
by John Kenneth Galbraith. His book is an excellent short,
very readable series of essays on the major economic myths of our day. He
thinks that war "remains the decisive human failure". He notes that the
concept of public and private sectors in largely a myth because of the pervasive
power of private interests. His writing is informed by his many years of
teaching economics and service in the federal government. The
Organization
for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international
economic organization of 34 countries founded in 1961 to stimulate economic
progress and world trade. Most of the economically developed nations are
members. It provides studies on many aspects of its members’ economies.
This link is to its 2008 study of income inequality and poverty. It shows
that only Mexico and Turkey have greater inequality of income and poverty rates
than the United States. Income inequality has been increasing since the
1970’s but has accelerated since 2000.
